For the first time since . . . anyone can ever recall, Republican Robin Ficker is quiet--something many might label Democrat Craig Rice's first accomplishment as councilmember-elect. I knew I liked the guy. Ficker now trails Rice by 41% to 59%.
Essay Question 1: Ficker constantly claimed that Rice would raise taxes if elected. Does Rice's election mean that there is a mandate for new taxes? Discuss.
Essay Question 2: Should David stop blogging when he starts writing essay questions based on the musings of Robin Ficker and taking his ideas seriously?

I will choose the short form essay.
1. Yes. There is a clear mandate for Craig Rice to personally raise Robin Ficker's taxes.
2. Yes.
Someone at the Washington Post had fun with this - numerically:
A34, above the fold, 40 of 53 precincts reporting:
Craig L. Rice (D) 22,396 0%
Robin Ficker (R) 1,400,157,970 100%
LOL!
. . . and I agree with Andy's answers!
Higher taxes and high rises are coming to the upcounty.
Mr. Ficker:
If the kitchen's too hot (read: if the county taxes are too high), you can get out of the kitchen.
Say good-bye, Mr. Ficker.

PS: did you figure out where your polling place was?
