Connie Morella surprised MoCo by winning a District 16 Delegate seat as a Republican in 1978. She surprised the county again by running for Congress two years later. She lost in the GOP primary, but Morella would upset Stewart Bainum for Congress six years later and serve until 2002. She and MoCo's first Executive, James Gleason, are probably the two most successful Republicans in county history. Below is a lit piece from her 1980 campaign.

She would still be in Congress if the crooked democrats had not gerrymandered her district.

Bob,
You can't be serious. Yes, the district took out up county areas that she did well. And, yes she got Takoma Park back, which was not as good to her.
But that does not make someone or even a group of people crooked. In your writing you are calling the Democrats who did this: dishonest.
Tell me where is the dishonesty? There was a partisan map written by partisans. That in and of itself is not dishonest.
I am more than willing to debate you on this. But I have seen you write this numerous times and what you have written is just plain wrong. It is also inaccurate; and to use "crooked" without evidence of crookedness is mean spirited.
Would you like to have a full fledged debate on this?
Kevin- There is no need for a debate.
It is well known that Mike Miller planned on redrawing the 8th district to make it harder for Morella to win.
He is even quoted as saying-"If she runs, she loses"
Maybe crooked is the wrong word- but the deed smacks of partisanship, and putting party above people.
It was a conspiracy- I believe Mike Miller also had hopes of redrawing Bob Ehrlich's district.
It is of course all politics-but I think it is dishonest and crooked .

Bob,
Is this a non-apology apology?
"Maybe crooked is the wrong word"???
No, it IS the WRONG word. It means dishonest. And if you can't prove dishonesty than you can't call it crooked. That is called using the English language properly. As an AU grad I would expect better use of your words.
And this was not the first time you used that word to describe the redistricting of CD8.
But then you call all politics "crooked" at the end. What's up?
Then you now throw in a "conspiracy" which means it is something "unlawful or evil".
As for "putting party above people" --- news flash it is redistricting. This is not choir practice.
Words have meaning and to call all politics "crooked" and / or a "conspiracy" without evidence means you either: a) don't know what the heck you are talking about or b) you will use any word without knowing its meaning see Kevin James and appeasement on 'Hard Ball'

My offer still stands in light of you still using "crooked" and "conspiracy" to describe the redistricting of CD8.
