How can progressive Maryland endorse anyone who voted for a 20% increase in the most regressive tax, the state sales tax that every man, woman and child pay every day. Delaware, a state with which we share an 85 mile border, charges NO sales tax at all. This tax increase has caused unemployment and forclosures in Maryland.
Where is your posting about the council voting 5-4 to pass the ambulance fee?
Mr. Ficker,
Are you seriously arguing that a penny increase in the Maryland sales tax caused a worldwide recession?
And just to follow your lead in cherry picking data:
MD State Income Top Tax Bracket-6.25%
Delaware State Income Top Tax Bracket-6.95%
MD Distilled Spirits Tax-$1.50
Delaware Distilled Spirits Tax-$5.46
MD Wine Tax-$.40
Delaware Wine Tax-$.97
MD Beer Tax-$.09
Delaware Beer Tax-$.16
MD Corporate Tax Rate-8.25%
Delaware Corporate Tax Rate-8.7%
Hard to believe Delaware has not swallowed us whole.

Adam, because of his ongoing gross conflict of interest as treasurer of the D-18 slate, ignored the big story from the Progressive Maryland endorsements – none of the boys in 18 was endorsed. The norm for many liberal advocacy groups is a reflexive endorsement of incumbents, at least in Montgomery County where virtually everyone claims to be progressive. In this case, however, the trio’s opposition to the Purple Line, a signature issue for PM, was too much. The opposition continues to be aggressive, with ongoing meddling by Madaleno and Carr.
There are other sticking points as well – progressive taxation and combined reporting, support for the ICC – but the point has been made. It is no longer sufficient to claim to be progressive, one must actually live and work and fight progressive.
The writer is treasurer of the Dana Beyer campaign.
