Hopkins to Participate in Three Community-Sponsored Candidate Forums
Several Other Forums in Development

BETHESDA, MD – May 11, 2010 – A number of community groups have stepped forward to sponsor three confirmed candidate forums for the District 1 Montgomery County Council race between challenger Ilaya Hopkins and incumbent Roger Berliner. The Hopkins campaign issued a call for forums in March, proposing five live forums as well as a televised forum and an online forum.

“It's thrilling to see this level of interest in the race,” Hopkins said. “Forums give an opportunity for voters to compare the candidates side by side and engage in a dialogue on the pressing issues that face our County.”

A forum in the Town of Chevy Chase, cosponsored by ten communities, is set for June 1st at 6:30 p.m. at the Lawton Community Center. Details on the forum and answers to the Town of Chevy Chase's questionnaire from both candidates can be found on the Town's website at http://www.townofchevychase.org. The Bethesda Civic Coalition, Edgemoor Citizens Association and the Downtown Bethesda Condominium Association have come together to jointly sponsor a forum on July 14, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bethesda Regional Services Center. The Randolph Civic Association is sponsoring a forum on September 2, 2010 at 8:00 p.m., to be held at the Veirs Mill Recreation Center. Several other groups have expressed interest in holding forums.

The Hopkins Campaign appreciates the hard work these civic organizations have put forth to arrange the forums and will work actively with all groups to ensure people throughout our community have an opportunity to participate in this important public dialog. Please contact the campaign if you are interested in hosting a candidate forum or having Ilaya Hopkins meet with your group.
