NARAL PRO-CHOICE MARYLAND PAC ENDORSES CHERYL KAGAN FOR STATE SENATE

SILVER SPRING, MD--Today, the Political Action Committee of NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland endorsed Cheryl Kagan for State Senate for District 17. NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland PAC is dedicated to electing pro-choice candidates who will provide leadership on issues of reproductive health.

“NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland PAC is proud to endorse Cheryl Kagan for State Senate. It is wonderful to have two candidates running in District 17 who support reproductive freedom. However, we believe that Cheryl Kagan will be a real leader for reproductive health care issues in the Maryland legislature,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland PAC Chair Tracy Terrell.

During her years in the House of Delegates, and as a staffer for NARAL Pro-Choice America, Cheryl Kagan demonstrated her commitment to pro-choice values. Moreover, she showed leadership on reproductive health issues such as being the lead sponsor on legislation requiring emergency rooms to offer emergency contraception to rape victims.

“We are thrilled to have such a strong pro-choice leader in this race,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland Executive Director, Jennifer Blasdell.

“I am thrilled to receive the endorsement of an organization that has a long history of standing up on women's issues,” stated Cheryl Kagan. "I firmly believe that women have the right to make their own reproductive choices. I look forward to continuing to work with NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland and its members to protect these important rights."

This endorsement speaks to a real need for strong pro-choice leaders in Annapolis.

As a former ED of NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland I know firsthand that we have a long way to go in terms of abortion access, reproductive healthcare, family planning, and sex education in Maryland.

Here's hoping NARAL's policy on endorsing strong leaders on women's health and choice, not just blindly endorsing incumbents, will return Maryland to where we should be - leading the nation in innovative pro-choice policies.

NARAL-Maryland has made a wise choice to support Cheryl Kagan. While most organizations tend to take the "safe" route, and endorse incumbents, NARAL-Maryland's endorsement of Cheryl Kagan shows that NARAL-Maryland is willing to be forthright in their endorsement of Cheryl Kagan, as she, by far, has the best experience, knowledge of the issues, and energy to promote women's pro-choice and other vital women's sexual health issues of all the candidates running for State Senate, in District 17.
