Hixson Family,

I'm sorry for your loss. Todd was a great guy with a fantastic sense of humor. I ran track with him at Catholic University and no matter the outcome, he always kept the team laughing and was a grounding influence when things got too serious. I know you will miss him.

Thinking of you all,
Richard Brody

Man, that's terrible.

Todd was such a sharp guy who always had some wry and humorous comment that made everyone crack a smile no matter the mood or situation.

Todd was THE ORIGINAL FedLock Baseball Club (based in Arlington, VA, where Todd lived) hero when he won the first of several Mens Senior Baseball League (MSBL) National Division rings for all of us by scoring the winning run in the 2004 38+ Wood Bat National Division Championship game using his great base running skills. (each year MSBL has a national baseball tournament in Pheonix, AZ where teams from around the country load up with talented players and compete at the highest skill levels with quite a few ex-pros on each team)

Todd always picked his moments for action and cashed in HUGE.

Most of us remember one of Todd's biggest moments was using his great baserunning skills where Ralph put him in to pinch run for Frankie Flash Cappello in the 8th inning with the score tied at 2 (after Frank's game tying rbi single-big clutch hit off the ex-pro pitcher Mike Smith).

At this point in the game, Todd knows exactly what he has to do to get on second so he can score on a base hit.

Using his championship sprinter speed Todd immediately steals second, just beating a catcher's throw that was right on the bag.

It was a great spot in the game with Todd sliding in safe at second just under the late tag.

I have a great photo that captures that moment, it's a real great shot.

Then DP Lee comes up and strokes a single into the outfield with some hang time to it.

Todd sees that the ball might drop in for a hit and takes off from second base.

As DP Lee's hit drops in between the left & center fielders, Todd is heading for home no matter what and flys right through Mitch (Russell) the third base coach's stop sign, scoring easily, using his speed & smarts to score the National Division championship game winning run.

@PG--I went to school with Todd's wife and her brother, and I and her classmates are all grieving for her and the family. Would you please send me a copy of the photo of Todd sliding into second base? You can send it to gene (AT) energypenguin (DOT) com. Thanks in advance.

Hixson Family,

My deepest sympathy to you all. COL Todd Hixson was a true friend and brother to me throughout our year in Iraq. We laughed our way through many long days; he was truly a unique individual and a fine United States Marine. I miss him every day. May God bless and keep the Hixson family through these hard days.

Respectfully,
LTC Randy Ross

To the whole Hixson family:

I only heard this tragic news this morning.

I was a HS teammate of Todd, a year younger. All of us on the 1977 Springbrook track team have a "State Championship" patch that we would not have had if not for the motivation and competitiveness of Todd, because he scored more of the 50 points that won that title than anyone. I would say talent, but Todd's talent was not nearly as great as that of many of the runners he defeated. His achievements were driven by a real need to make himself and our team better.

While he worked incredibly hard to make himself the great athlete that he was, he was also a great team leader, and an eloquent man who frequently cracked up his teammates and his coaches with an apt comment when it was most needed.

I am extremely sorry for your loss.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time. I am very sorry to hear about COL Hixson. I had the chance to work with him while I was in Iraq. If you would like, I have a couple pictures of him that I will be more than happy to send.

God Bless,
