Yes. That's why they're moribund.
This situation is not limited to the Maryland GOP, BTW. It's national: an increasingly smaller and more extreme conservative party that increasingly speaks only to itself, convinced that if it only becomes a little more pure and a little more extreme it will return to the imagined glory days of Ronald Reagan. And that Sarah Palin is going to lead them to the promised land.
My sense is that we may well be witnessing the death of a modern political party.
