Nancy Navarro Launches Online Announcement for
Montgomery County Council Candidacy
Campaign Promises to Build Broad Coalition of New Generation Democrats
SILVER SPRING, MD - Board of Education Member, Nancy Navarro, today formally launched her campaign for Montgomery County Council, through an online video announcement. The biographical video is posted simultaneously on: Maryland Politics Watch blog (http://maryland-politics.blogspot.com), as well as Navarro's Facebook Group, "New Generation Democrats Supporting Nancy Navarro for County Council."

Navarro commented, "When I ran for County Council this time last year, I talked about promoting the politics of possibilities and trying to seek common ground between the often divergent viewpoints of residents in Montgomery County. But with our local and national economy at a crisis point, it is more important now than ever that we embrace President Obama’s call for renewed involvement at the local level and for a unified voice for positive change.”
Promising to transcend the past disputes that have divided County residents, Navarro hopes to build bridges between the traditional constituencies of civic activists, environmentalists, business and labor - but to also reach out to the seniors, young voters, working families and communities of color too often ignored in local politics. "The challenges facing Montgomery County are too serious and pressing for us to focus on what divides us. My campaign will be driven by a solution-oriented approach that seeks common ground to create jobs and protect services for seniors and working families."
Navarro's campaign team includes:
• Campaign Manager David Moon (Former Manager for Sen. Jamie Raskin, Purple Line NOW!, & Navarro's past Council bid)
• Deputy Manager Jackie Lichter (Former State Director for SEIU's Obama Virginia Effort, SEIU Local 500 Political Director)
• Field Director Ken Silverman (Former Iowa Field Organizer, John Edwards for President)
• Outreach Coordinator Patti Devlin (President, Flower Valley Citizens' Association, Consultant on Working Families Issues)
• Campaign Chair Oscar Ramirez (Former Virginia Policy Director for Obama for America, Chief of Staff to Congresswoman Hilda Solis)

Nice. Haunting imagery. Well done. I am not a District 4 resident but I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed watching Nancy Navarro's video announcing her candidacy. Her narrative spoke volumes to me and I found myself reflecting on her words of inclusion. I got her passion for expanding the traditional table and empowering new people and ideas. Refreshing. Nice.I wish her the best of luck and I wish I knew people in District 4; I would ask them to give her a really good look. Her use of technology to deliver her message reminds me of my main man Obama. This lady looks like she is going places. I am impressed.
If Obama had run on Navarro's tax increase message, he wouldn't have won Illinois, let alone the Presidency.
I loved the video. Its great when politicians are willing to share a little bit about themselves - how they got to where they are and why they are doing it. Nancy has a great personal story and it seems like she's doing this for the right reasons. She has my vote!
Haunting imagery? As in scary looking? She looks "hard". Like one pack-of-camels a day, school bus driver, hard.
I am confused by her background... She did what, in college? Weird. She worked with the elderly, for how long? What about Centro Familia- she mentions it all the time as part of her credentials, but now there is no mention. She "severed" all ties and evolved, but has gone on to work for the other group on Langley park that rhymes with Centro Familia. What is her record, exactly on the board? I mean other than cutting deals with Weast and the unions- you know, as far as children and what not.
And the attacks begin...
Aw, c'mon folks, be nice.
I myself am tempted to make a video for my own campaign, but I think I'd prefer the "Crazy Eddie" sales pitch. You know, "we can undercut everyone because we have no overhead! Plus, only a crazy man would have such low low everyday prices! Why, only today, we chopped prices on everything by twenty percent!" (cut to stock footage of demented person with axe) "Better come on down before closing time, because tomorrow it'll be back to business as usual..."
However amusing that thought is, of course it would detract from the solemn dignity that characterized Montgomery politics if a wave of competing candidate videos each tried to be sillier than the last.
It would make for an entertaining campaign, tho'...
Eric,
I agree with you. Also interesting is that some of the comments come from people who signed up for google as of February 2009. Glad to have to the readers but based on their comments I think they have a hidden agenda.
I did not support Nancy last year. I have not decided on a candidate for 2009 but if someone wants to disagree with her fine but try selecting an issue to disagree on.
I think she and her supporters can be proud of this video and she is clearly trying to reach out to people through new forms of media. Good for her.
